On June 5, 2012, the BC Supreme Court released a decision on an investigation into the practices of the law firm Blott and Company related to the Independent Assessment Process.

The Court will order the removal of David Blott and Blott & Company from the IAP. Honour Walk Ltd., the Residential School Healing Society of Canada, and Hands Free Office Services will also be removed.

The Court will appoint the Honourable Ian Pitfield, a retired British Columbia Supreme Court judge to oversee the orderly transition of the IAP clients of the Blott firm.

The Chief Adjudicator of the Indian Residential School Adjudication Secretariat has received the decision of the Supreme Court of British Columbia and is presently reviewing it.

The IRSAS regrets the worry and concern that the actions of Blott & Company has caused for many claimants under the IAP.

The Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS) has been actively engaged in the BC Supreme Court hearing into the investigation of Blott & Company.

We will work with Justice Pitfield and other Parties to the case to ensure an orderly transition of IAP claimants represented by the Blott firm. Our goal is to help all Blott & Company claimants resolve their cases with as little disruption as possible.

IRSAS will continue to be vigilant to ensure that lawyers involved in the IAP process adhere to the highest professional standards and support the IRSAS goal of bringing a fair and lasting resolution to the harm caused by residential schools.

We will continue to provide updated information to all claimants under the IAP as it becomes available.
