Notice to self-represented claimants: Deadline Extended for Reconsideration of Dismissed IAP Claims
July 13, 2017
June 1, 2018 is the last date you can request to have your claim re-admitted to the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) if your claim has been dismissed through the Incomplete File Resolution (IFR) procedure.
The Incomplete File Resolution (IFR) procedure was designed to ensure that claims keep moving towards a hearing. It includes safeguards at every stage to protect the rights of claimants. The new deadline means self-represented claimants can ask the Chief Adjudicator to hold a hearing for their claim under the IAP, even if it has already been dismissed under the IFR.
The IAP is a complex legal process. That’s why all of the parties to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (IRSSA) encourage you to hire a lawyer to help with your IAP claim. If you want to hire a lawyer, a Claimant Support Officer can help you find one.
If you have questions about the status of your claim, or if you want more information about the new IFR Reconsideration deadline, please speak with a Claimant Support Officer. You can reach a Claimant Support Officer by calling the toll-free IAP Information line at 1-877-635-2648.
