Independant Assessment Process (IAP) not affected by Ontario Court Decision

September 13, 2018

On September 5, 2018, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice directed that Chief Adjudicator Dan Shapiro of the Independent Assessment Process (IAP) withdraw from three cases currently before the Courts.

On September 12, the Ontario Court of Appeal granted a stay of the decision pending an appeal.

The stay and the appeal will not have any impact on the work of the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat. It will be business as usual for us. We will continue to work to resolve the remaining claims in the Independent Assessment Process with the same care and diligence that we have used to resolve all of the claims that have been submitted to us.
